    Hi,

    I've created a 404 page but my page is public and I don't want it, what is the best way to do a custom 404 page?

    Please check the screenshots.

    I've created a 404 page from the left menu on wordpress. 

    After that, I chose that page in the theme options like you can see on the screenshot.

    My concern is because 404 page is public, is this the best way to create a custom 404 page?

    HI!

    Sorry for possible misunderstanding. it's must be in public. 

    in another way, you can edit 

    /wp-content/themes/thegem/404.php

    It's template just copy it to the child theme.

    Install child theme, just copy this file via FTP and edit it there.

    Path will be:

    /wp-content/themes/thegem-child/404.php
