"Menus" tab in Backend Wordpress Crashes when TheGem theme is Activated

I recently purchased The Gem theme from ThemeForest/Codex in order to improve the appearance of my new website. I’ve had a problem setting up the menus when TheGem Portfolio Minimalist theme is activated. When I use any other theme, I’m able to access the Appearances>Menus tab in Wordpress, but once I activate TheGem’s themes and click on the “Menus” tab, the page times out and gives me the following error.
I contacted Hostgator for technical support, and they said it was a problem with the theme as well.
Since I paid for a premium theme through The Gem, and have high goals for my website, I’d like to continue using the theme, but I’d like to know how to get around my consistently crashing “Menus” tab in Wordpress. Thanks!
