I am not understanding the purpose of the post template. I thought if I built one template, I could use it for several posts and then modify each one. But when I apply a post template to a new post and then click to edit it on that post, the changes take place on all posts that have used that template. I want to use a template for a number of posts, and then modify each post to the correct information. But it seems like I have to make a new template for each unique post. Which defeats the purpose of having a template. Can you please help? I am so confused.
the purpose of the single post template is to make a global uniform design/layout of the single post which can be applied globally and which can be edited in one place. You can consider the post template as the design basis for the posts. Post can consist of title, excerpt, post content - all this is editable in the post itself. By applying the post template you "put" this parts inside some design. So, if you wish to edit the individual post content, you make it with the page builder inside this respective post. If you wish to edit the global post design/layout, you make it via TheGem templates builder -> single post, also with the page builder.
I hope it is now better explained.
If I miss something in your question - kindly let me know and share some screenshots so I can better understand.
