    I want to have my pages backed up. Just in case the editor screws up I want to be able to import the original page again.

    Can I just use the Elementor "save template as" option? And import it via pages-add new?

    Or does TheGem use a special way to have it being backed up.

    Yes, you can simply save the page as a template.
